In Order of Appearance...

  1. Conceited Jerk Winnipeg MB, Canada
I will create ART! In the process, I will also solve a particular problem with data exchange (and backup) on my Amiga 2000 and 1200, as well as fixing an ailing TRS-80 and (time permitting) mapping out the Coco 3 game Rad Warrior. All while watching the final stages of the FIFA World Cup in various stages of inebriation.
  2. Luddite Daysland AB, Canada
I will create MUSIC! ...and maybe some art. Whatever the case, I'm sticking with my trusty Apple II collection for this year's challenge.
  3. Urbancamo (Mark Wickens) Windermere, UK
    Lunar Lander on a VT330, possibly in Modula-3 on Alpha/Digital Unix 3.2
  4. Lod (Aaron Wolfe) South Florida, USA
I will attempt to port or implement a MUD (likely AberMUD) that runs under OS-9 on the Tandy Color Computer 3. Although some of the TCP/IP networking will be done with DriveWire, the game server will run entirely on the CoCo and support some number of simultaneous players connected via telnet and/or serial terminals.
  5. Brouhaha Western USA
I’ll transform an FPGA eval board into a COSMAC Elf... If time permits, I might also implement the RCA Studio II game console.
  6. Wgoodf The Lothians, Scotland
Fix a broken Nascom 1 single board computer and to make an I/O port for the ZX81.
  7. StrictlySega Melbourne, Australia
2 things happening: 1) is no technology will be used around the house if it came out after 1997... part 2) I plan to make an episode of my show "StrictlySega"... trying to review a game without using the luxury's of modern technology... so no digital camera, no tv capture device and no digital editing... all done with using two VHS recorders.. and document the effort required.
  8. Paleoferrosaurus Springboro PA, USA
This summers challenge is titled "Fun With Magtape" and I'm not sure where all it might go.
  9. Anonymous Freak Portland OR, USA
Play through the couple dozen vintage PC games I just acquired, will make commentary on each, possibly videos, if I get that motivated.
  10. Mmphosis 48.753731,-123.428054
Mix 1 document named recursive with an Apple II+ emulator named Catakig and see what happens.
  11. Dustin Cook Garland TX, USA
I will compile a complete reference to the Apple II game "Expedition Amazon" including original high-resolution artwork, updating the MobyGames page for it, uploading scans of the manual (with permission from the authors) to GameFAQs, writing a complete walkthrough, and if time permits create a short story based on the exploits of my party.
  12. Printstar Anytown, USA
For this Retrochallenge, I plan to attempt to complete two goals:
    1.
Program something interesting on my HP48G graphics calculator. This portion will also involve building a serial cable to connect my calculator to a PC.
    2. Write something that can be booted on a Tandy 1000 computer. From scratch, I plan to code something simple that can be written to a floppy's boot block and can be booted directly on a Tandy 1000 computer without MS-DOS.
As these two goals are completely unrelated, my blog updates should be more rambling than usual.
  13. Tachyon Temecula CA, USA
I will do all computing on computers made in or before 1998. I will also use a PowerBook 1400c/117 to create a useful and homepage at retro-net.org through telnet and pico.
  14. Adrian of MacMedic Sydney, Australia
Retrofit several Macintosh machines with new capacitors which have damaged boards beyond functionality.
  15. Gavo New Zealand
Attempt to fix an Apple Lisa 2 PSU, and if I get really motivated, design, build and document a PRAMTalk server.
  16. Togart somewhere in cyberspace
For my part, I will be attempting to resurrect a couple of Apple IIe's that haven't been touched in years. I'll determine what software still works (hopefully some games), and finally, try to recover some old documents. I have no idea what state anything is in, so this should be interesting.
  17. Arfink Columbia Heights MN, USA
I want to learn how to code on the Apple IIgs with something other than AppleSoft BASIC, like Pascal. If I can, I'll join the rock-paper-scissors challenge, and I might write two clients if they let me, one for Tandy and one for Apple IIgs. I also want to get my leftover Tandy BBS code running with TCPSER or my Lantronix. And as usual, I'll get sidetracked and generally have a good time, and I'll be documenting it all on my Gopher blog using strictly retro hardware.
  18. Agg23 Dayton OH, USA
I am going to attempt to get my Macintosh SE to browse the web and set up a webserver on it. I would also like to use my 68k Mac collection to create music programically (Hypercard?). I am also hoping to get into the rock, paper, scissors contest and find a way to beat Luddite at hunt ;)
  19. Pukka Helsinki, Finland
I will program a flight simulator using Think C and Macintosh PowerBook 540 or 160 (if I am able to locate an operational copy from my collection). It will be based on small 3D graphic library I have written in my earlier life.
  20. Earl Evans Portland OR, USA
I'll be working again on my prototype for an Epson PX-8 virtual disk drive. (This time for sure!) My goal is by the end of July to have the virtual drive respond successfully to a DIR request from the PX-8, and load at least a single file.
  21. Oliver Berlin, Germany
I have dozens of old vintage 1970 & 80 Handhelds I like to feature in short (5 min) videos. I try to do one the day but do not know if I can handle that the complete month. We will see.
  22. Nathan New York NY, USA
The plan: Get Apple IIe w/ super serial card and Windows computer to communicate over the serial port and use ADTPro to make some disks of available programs. Then get Apple IIe on internet via an Arduino w/ ethernet shield and the apple II's super serial card by programming the Arduino and by writing a basic or/and assembly program for the Apple IIe end of things to handle user requests. Besides that I hope to find some time to play some games on the Apple IIe (if get to that point) and maybe use my other macs (vintage and just old) some. Anything else that happens that involves retro/old computers shall be icing on the cake (I might never reach that point). Maybe I'll try and participate in Hunt on RetroNET this year if I can find time.
  23. John Honniball Bristol, UK
Add a new EPROM and address decoder to my 30-year-old and already much-modified Compukit UK101. Then, write 6502 assembly language code to go into the EPROM. The code will add support for a 9600 baud digital cassette and will implement 48x32 pixel graphics on the text-mode display. Finally, write a demo!
  24. Scott Baret Pittsburgh PA, USA
I will be using a PowerBook 150 equipped with several older education programs to tutor children in mathematics. This will supplement "traditional" forms of teaching such as textbook activities and manipulatives. I "pilot tested" the 150 with a few students at an earlier date and found all of them to enjoy the activities as well as the computer itself and look forward to making it an effective teaching tool on a regular basis.
  25. Paul Potter Mansfield, UK
I'll be trying to install and use OpenBSD on one of my many 486s, and connecting it up one of my really old PCs to act as a serial terminal.
  26. Steve Coelho California, USA
For my retro challenge, I will attempt to complete a Commodore 64 portable that I have been working on using a DTV board. You can see updates at Equalopporunists.com under Vintage Corner.
  27. Bob Somewhere, UK
I will be attempting to do something useful with a 486dx75 laptop. Progress will be documented by text file on said laptop, and finding somewhere for any one interested to see it will also be part of the challenge. (In other words, I was too lazy to sort it before now!)
  28. Osgeld At The Cheese Factory
The idea is to do some random retro inspired projects, nothing big or major, just some fun
  29. epooch San Diego CA, USA
Get my Mac SE and SE/30 on my home network without an ethernet card and without using another computer.
